Yarn: Worsted weight yarn.
Needles: 4 double pointed 4.00 mm needles.

Size: Women's shoe size 7 (9 to 10 inch foot)
Gauge - 5 Knit sts = 1 inch
7 Knit rows = 1 inch

Abbreviations used:
st - stitch
K - knit
P - purl
K2tog - knit 2 together
P2tog - purl 2 together

I used one color for this pattern, but if you want to use two colors, that's fine. You can see The Men's Knitted Socks for an idea on where to change colors.

Cast 12 sts loosely on each of the 3 needles (total 36 sts)
Or, cast 36 sts loosely on one needle, then divide to 12 on three needles.

Rnds 1 - 40 - K1, P1 to end of Rnd.
Heel
Put 18 sts on one needle and 9 sts on the other two needles.
Row 1 - K to end of row, turn. (18 sts)
Row 2 - P to end or row, turn. (18 sts)
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 to Row 14. (18 sts)
Row 15 - K4, K2tog, K6, K2tog, K4 (16 sts)
Row 16 - P3, P2tog, P6, P2tog, P3 (14 sts)
Row 17 - K2, K2tog, K6, K2tog, K2(12 sts)

On the two needles that had 9 sts unworked, pick up 15 more stitches along the end of the heel rows for a total of 24 sts each on those two needles.
Continue as follows for foot of sock:
Rnd 1 - K all around.
Rnd 2 - K12 on first needle, then on the next needle K13, K2tog, K9. Next needle K9, K2tog, K13
I will put slashes / to indicate where instructions start for each needle.
Rnd 3 - K12 / K12, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K12
Rnd 4 - K12 / K11, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K11
Rnd 5 - K12 / K10, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K10
Rnd 6 - K12 / K9, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K9
Rnd 7 - K12 / K8, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K8
Rnd 8 - K12 / K7, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K7
Rnd 9 - K12 / K6, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K6
Rnd 10 - K12 / K5, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K5
Rnd 11 - K12 / K4, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K4
Rnd 12 - K12 / K3, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K3
Rnd 13 - K12 / K2, K2tog, K9 / K9, K2tog, K2
I didn't think it was necessary to put the slashes for each needle here. Towards the end of the Rnds, you will have to move a st from one needle onto another needle so you can knit two together.
Rnd 14 to 43 - K (36 sts)
Rnd 44 - K14, K2tog, K16, K2 tog, K2 (34 sts)
Rnd 45 - K13, K2tog, K15, K2tog, K2 (32 sts)
Rnd 46 - K13, K2tog, K14, K2tog, K1 (30 sts)
Rnd 47 - K12, K2tog, K13, K2tog, K1 (28 sts)
Rnd 48 - K12, K2tog, K12, K2tog (26 sts)
Rnd 49 - K11, K2tog, K11, K2tog (24 sts)
Rnd 50 - K10, K2tog, K10, K2tog (22 sts)
Rnd 51 - K9, K2tog, K9, K2tog (20 sts)
Rnd 52 - K2tog to end of Rnd.
Put yarn on a darning needle and sew through each of the remaining sts. Pull tight to close up toe end and sew to fasten.
