Children's Easy Slippers For Beginners

These are the same as the pattern for adults but the instructions are for a size to fit children with a foot length of 7 1/4 to 8 inches.

The photo is of the adult version of the slippers, however I put it here too so you can see how they look.

MATERIALS 4 ply worsted weight yarn
Hook - 5.00mm or H hook
Size: Will fit a 7 1/4 to 8 inch foot.
Gauge: 3 sc = 1 inch, 3 rows = 1 inch.

SPECIAL THANKS TO JANETTE for testing this pattern. She wrote to me about how she had made the adult version of these slippers for her husband and daughter and now her two grandsons wanted her to make some for them too. She said she didn't know how to make the pattern small enough to fit their feet. So I did some calculations based on my gauge and sent the new instructions to Janette. She wrote back and said they came out good and the fit was just right!
SPECIAL THANKS TO SUSANNE. She made these slippers for her daughter.  When doing the body of the slippers, Susanne crocheted through the back loops on all rounds, which gives the slippers a very unique look! Thank you for the link to the photo of the slippers you made, Susanne.

Abbreviations used:
st - stitch
ch - chain
ss - slip stitch
sc - single crochet
To make 2 sc tog: Insert hook in first stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, insert into second stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.
Double your yarn by working with 2 strands. I rolled the yarn into two balls and worked from both.

SOLE
Ch 4
Row 1 - 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 1 sc in next chain, 2 sc in last chain, ch 1 and turn. (5 sc)
Row 2 - 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
Row 3 - 1 sc in each sc, ch 1 and turn. (5 sc)
Row 4 - 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, ch 1, turn. (7 sc)
Rows 5 to 10 - 1 sc in each sc. (7 sc)
Row 11 - 2 sc tog, 1 sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc tog, ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
Rows 12 to 20 - 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
Row 21 - 1 sc in each sc, ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
Row 22 - 2 sc tog, 1 sc in next 1 sc, 2 sc tog, ch 1, turn. (3 sc)

Next you will do a round of sc all around the sole in the following manner: Slip stitch in first sc, in next sc do a slip stitch and a ch 1 and 1 sc. 1 sc in next sc. 1 sc at the end of each row. You now have 24 sc, 1 sc in each of the 3 chs. You now have 27 sc. 1 sc at the end of each row. 1 sc in the 1st slip stitch you made at the beginning. 50 sc total, ch 1, turn.

BODY OF SLIPPER
Always begin your sc in the sc of previous rnd and not in the ss where you joined.
RND 1 - Through back loops of stitches only - 1 sc in each st, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (50 sc)
RND 2 - Rest of the rnds are through both loops - 1 sc in each st, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (50 sc)
RND 3 - 1 sc in next 19 sc, 2 sc tog, (1 sc in next sc, 2 sc tog) 3 times, 1 sc in next 20 sc (24 sm - 29 lg), ss to join, ch 1, turn. (46 sc)
RND 4 - 1 sc in next 21 sc, 2 sc tog twice, 1 sc in next 21 sc, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (44 sc)
RND 5 - 1 sc in next 20 sc, 2 sc tog twice, 1 sc in next 20 sc, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (42 sc)
RND 6 - 1 sc in next 19 sc, 2 sc tog twice, 1 sc in next 19 sc, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (40 sc)
RND 7 - 1 sc in next 16 sc, 2 sc tog four times, 1 sc in next 16 sc, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (36 sc)
RND 8 - 1 sc in next 14 sc, 2 sc tog four times, 1 sc in next 14 sc, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (32 sc)
RND 9 - 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc tog four times, 1 sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc tog, 1 sc in next sc, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (26 sc)
You may want to end the pattern here. But if you feel it needs one more row for height or to tighten up the slipper, do the next row as follows.
RND 10 - 1 sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc tog four times, 1 sc in next 9 sc, ss to join, ch 1, turn. (22 sc)
Fasten off.
